Sceleratissimus Lutheranus

The title "Sceleratissimus Lutheranus" (meaning “the most villainous Lutheran”) was “awarded” to Martin Chemnitz by his Roman Catholic adversaries after the publication of his exhaustive critique of the Council of Trent. The term takes on new meaning in our modern religious climate when Lutherans are villified as being “too Protestant” for most Roman Catholics and “too Catholic” for most Protestants.
